Get With This
Friday afternoon in Van City and loads to report.
Some shout-outs...to Jeff Chang for his well-deserved American Book Award. Still reading Can't Stop Won't Stop, and still finding it utterly inspiring. (Though I wish it could have weighed a little less. Took that tome backpacking across Asia and I can tell you that it added some pounds to my pack!) Big shout-out to our city's own MC Curtis Clearsky, who has been named a messenger of Truth by the United Nations Human Settlements Program.
Check out my profiles on local rapper Smoxz and T-dot singer Divine Brown. Also, peep fellow Straight writer Martin Turenne's interview with Guru and his new Primo, MC/producer Solar. Don't think Hov is gonna appreciate being called a "fucking derelict." Just a guess.
Off to review the all-ages (read: overly drunk sixteen year-olds) Black Eyed Peas/Talib Kweli concert tonight. Missed Guru's show last night for a marathon coffee-talk session with my girls, and didn't regret it one bit.
